Calculation of the Thai PP-R Permissible Working Pressure and Lifetime

The lifetime of the Thai PP-R pipe is up to 50 years or more, depending on working pressure and working temperature. The higher the pressure or the temperature, the shorter the lifetime. On the contrary, the lower the pressure or the temperature, the longer the lifetime. From the Long-term Behavior Table shown in the DIN 8078 standard, if the Thai PP-R pipe is to be used under the pressure of lower than 5.8 Mpa, and the temperature of lower than 50 degree Celsius, its lifetime can be up to 100 years.

To achieve a required lifetime; therefore, the effect of pressure and temperature should be taken into consideration when selecting the Thai PP-R pipe. The below equation can be used in calculation and the result can be compared with the Long-term Behaviour Table shown in the DIN 8078 Standard.

  The Thai PP-R pipe, type SDR 6 (PN20), size 110 mm is to be used with 70˚C hot water under a continuous pressure of 0.8 0.8 MPa (approximately 8 Bars). If the required safety factor is 1.5, can this pipe be used for up to 50 years?
 
  I we look at the Long-term Behaviour Graph of the Thai PP-R Pipe and draw a lifetime line of 50 years from the x-axis to cross the 70 ํC temperature line, the y-intercept or the Hoop Stress will read 3.1 MPa.This means that the PN20 pipe, size 110 mm, to be used with 70 ํC hot water under a continuous pressure of 0.8 MPa with a required safety factor of 1.5, can be used for 50 years because the бv = 3.00 MPa, which is lower than 3.1 MPa.
